A Guide to Gifting Art

Racking your brain for the perfect gift idea but coming up empty? The same uninspired ideas and generic options can make the gift buying process a tortured one, so why not try something new? A work of art is a poignant gift that lasts a lifetime, and is the perfect way to express your appreciation for your loved one. A carefully chosen artwork shows forethought and consideration for your loved one’s personal taste, but when looking for a worthwhile gift it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the abundance of options.

We know the whole process seems daunting, so here are our top tips for a stress-free gifting experience.

The Search Starts at Home

The search for the perfect artwork starts at home. But not yours, theirs. A person’s individual taste shines through in their interior design decisions, so make sure to soak it all in when you next pop round for dinner. It’s important to know what you’re already working with; does their home abide by a certain theme? Are they more minimalist or maximalist? Do they have a particular colour scheme? These small elements can make or break your decision-making process so make sure to pay attention. If they already have a gallery wall, purchasing a print that matches that theme is a surefire way to ensure the recipient is happy with your choice. Our extensive collections cover all bases, meaning that regardless of colour scheme or interior decorating theme, you’ll find everything you need on our site.

Size is Key

There’s nothing worse than buying a work of art that can’t be hung anywhere, so it’s vital that you know how much space is available on your loved one’s walls. Make sure to avoid purchasing a large print when they have limited wall space, and vice versa, a small print can get lost in a massive room. If you’d prefer to err on the side of caution, sometimes less is more. A smaller-scale print may be a more sensible choice that allows your loved one the flexibility to place their new artwork anywhere. If you have the budget, purchasing a few small prints of a similar style will guarantee that your gift will fit seamlessly into their home decor.

Make it Meaningful

When gift giving, it’s easy to fall in the trap of buying for you, not for your loved one. It’s best to focus on shared experiences and appeal to their emotional side when choosing the perfect present. Creating a connection through a work of art will ensure your recipient truly appreciates the effort you put into this decision. Draw on your personal memories; do they love travelling or taking long walks amongst natureDo they have a favourite artist or a preferred colour? Above all, rely on your gut instinct. After all, you know them best. Our expansive range of prints means we have all bases covered, and you're sure to find the perfect gift within our selection.

Framed is Best

A gorgeous work of art is nothing without a frame, and presenting your print in it’s packing tube doesn’t make for an ideal gifting experience. The receiver is much less likely to hang the work of art themselves if they have to go and purchase the frame separately, so go the extra mile and have their work lovingly framed for them. Darker frames tend to match most decor so this might be the safer option, but we have a wide range of frame choices to choose from otherwise. A great frame has the ability to transform any artwork, so this step is not one to skip.

Go Original

If your budget allows, why not give your loved one an original work of artGifting a completely unique piece makes the occasion all the more emotional. An original work comes with a plethora of benefits such as the potential investment opportunities and the pleasure that comes with owning something completely authentic. Presenting an original piece adds another layer of meaning onto an already thoughtful gift, so it might be worth it if you're willing to indulge your loved one a little bit more.

If All Else Fails...

If all else fails, why not buy them a gift cardThis way they can browse our selection to their heart's content whilst taking the pressure off of yourself.

Above all else, don’t be afraid to be bold and trust your gut. More often than not thinking outside of the box pays off, and you’ll be rewarded with your loved one’s special reaction. Art lasts a lifetime, and so will your connection to your loved one, all through this meaningful gift.
