You Are My Sunshine

'You Are My Sunshine' is a screenprint by David Spiller. From an edition of 95, this print is embossed by the Spiller estate.

Throughout his career, David always worked on smaller, more accessible
paintings to move through ideas quickly. Towards the end of his life, he felt the
urgency to create while he still could. David liked the burst of energy he could
encapsulate into these smaller proportions. The image was more intimate,
enticing the viewer to look closely at the work to read the important messages
held within the messages of love. David did not feel constrained to stay within the
image bounds of this format, thereby allowing him to let the text spill over the
edges onto the white paper. These messages stand out, returning to an idea he
used previously in his practice.

David liked the idea of making family groups and conversations between
characters. This set of smaller sized editions has allowed him to realise this
overall vision. The dimensions of this series of works mean that they can be
grouped as an installation of images in many various combinations, a way he'd
always like to see his work displayed.

Each print is signed by his wife Moira and son Xavier and comes with a full certificate
of authenticity.

David Spiller's art was filled with life and energy. His works use a blend of styles, mixing Pop art - its bright colours, punchy texts and clean lines - with deceptively simple expressionism. On top of his striking images, he adds another layer in scrawled text that often includes lines from favourite songs such as in 'I've Been Loving you a Long Time'.
