ARTIST STORY

Ai Weiwei

His works have tackled sensitive issues such as the Syrian refugee crisis and the Sichuan Earthquake of 2008. Weiwei’s outward criticism of the alleged government cover up following this disaster led him to be assaulted by police, and shortly after he was arrested and held for 81 days following allegations of “economic crimes”. Despite his condemnation and attempted repression by the Chinese authorities, his work is celebrated both by art critics and the general public alike. Weiwei has been featured multiple times in the ArtReview Power 100 list that ranks the most powerful figures in contemporary art. His illustrious career has also won him a series of awards such as the Lifetime Achievement prize at the Chinese Contemporary Art Awards, the Wall Street Journal’s Innovator Award, and he was shortlisted for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2011. His work has been exhibited in major institutions worldwide.

Limited Edition

So you’ve found your perfect limited edition artwork, but what does this actually mean? Limited editions are original artworks that an artist creates in a particular print medium, such as a giclée print, screen print or photograph. Our limited edition artworks are specifically created by our talented artists with a maximum edition number in mind. The term ‘limited edition’ refers to the total number of artworks that are available for that particular piece. The edition size can vary widely between artworks, however most of the time our artists create editions in small numbers ranging from 10 to a few hundred.
