Yellow and Grey Chain Gang

Giclée print
Artwork size: 52 x 74 cm
Image size: 40cm x 60cm
Edition of 850

Yellow and Grey Chain Gang is a hand numbered limited edition giclee print on 100% cotton rag paper by Bristol based artist Lisa Takahashi.
The original lino cut print of this image was chosen by the Royal Academy for their Summer Exhibition 2015. The simple shapes and paired down pallet of Indian Yellow; Orange Lake Extra and Warm Grey Light give a great sense of both dramatic light and movement. It captures a row of road racing cyclists and their shadows snaking along in the late afternoon sun.

About The Artist - Lisa Takahashi

Lisa Takahashi is a printmaker based in Bristol, England. Her linocut prints reference the Grosvenor School artists such as Cyril Power and Sybil Andrews who worked in the same medium. She pares down detail to find essential shapes, and uses geometry to emphasise form. She concentrates often on movement and sport, specifically, in many of her prints, on cycling where she finds a natural geometry both in the shapes of the individual cyclists and in the pattern produced by the group.

Born in 1981 to a Japanese mother and an English father Takahashi grew up in North London before studying Fine Art at Bath Spa University College and Middlesex University. Subsequent to her studies she worked as assistant to artists Stephen Walter and Hugo Grenville. She then opened a studio in London where she worked both as painter in oils and watercolour, before moving her studio to Bristol where she concentrates on printmaking, more specifically on linocut prints.
Lisa has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London (where her print ‘Chain Gang’ – see Prints – quickly sold out); at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London, and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. She has contributed to many group shows across Europe, and is collected by private individuals world-wide.
