About The Artist - Cyril Power

Cyril Power (1872-1951) was a British artist best known for his linocut prints, although he also painted and etched.

He was particularly passionate about where he lived - London - and the London Underground, a subject he captured by mimicking its speed, movement, and dynamism through his artwork. We love the sense of action and energy paired with his futuristic outlook and striking colours. It can be seen in many of his creations how he mastered the handling of curve, form, and line to capture the pace and rhythm of modern life.

Power studied and later taught at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London. He exhibited widely during his career, and was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1930. Power’s artwork is held in collections around the world in the British Museum, the National Gallery of Australia, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
