This museum art print is of a detail from Andy Warhol,s The Last Supper,. The Pop Art image is part of a series of Last Supper, paintings which were made in late 1986. This was Andy Warhol,s last ever completed suite of paintings before his death in February 1987. The series was a commission for the Milan bank Credito-Valtellinese. The Warhol originals were hung in the bank,s new premises, just across the street from the Church of Sanata Maria della Grazie, where Leonardo,s original Last Super, can be seen. A press release from the Guggenheim noted, モWarhol considered the project crucially important to his life and work. Although it is not widely known, Warhol remained a devout Catholic during his life.ヤ
Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola) (American, 1928-1987) was a leading figure in the Pop art movement. His work included painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, film and music. Fascinated with celebrity culture and status, his silkscreens of pop icons and mundane objects, were particularly successful and cemented his place as a “celebrity” artist. Some of his best known works include Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962).
