'SMILE Painting on Glass' is an original painting on glass by contemporary artist VeeBee. Framed in a deep-box, the piece is signed by the artist.Contemporary artist VeeBee is something of a mystery: keeping her identity concealed, VeeBee lets her work talk for itself, distinct from the 'cult of the artist' complex that informs so much in the world of modern art. Her mixed media pieces, incorporate collage and bricolage techniques, digital forms, and painstakingly hand applied detailing, for a bold, cutting edge aesthetic.Leaping into the air, a trusty can of spray paint in hand, a young girl sprays the curve of a smile across a giant, yellow face, beaming towards the audience. This piece painted onto a famed sheet of glass, which is backed by a blank white background, VeeBeecreates the illusion of depth and the play of light and shadow in this joyous gem of contemporary art.

VeeBee’s approach to art is unconventional, using spray paint on glass surfaces and inventing and experimenting with other techniques to suit different projects. Her favourite medium to work with is spray paint because of its versatility and smooth, uniform finish, as she says: ‘Pointing the nozzle over a delicate piece that I have been working on for days or weeks is a terrifying, but truly thrilling moment for me. Sometimes it takes several attempts to achieve the finish I desire. I have had pieces that took over eighteen months to complete.’ However, she is constantly experimenting with different materials and using them in unusual ways. She embraces the challenge of exploring new and inventive techniques and surrendering control. Although not much is known about the artist, they did attend art school and choose to remain in the shadows to enable their artwork to be viewed as a separate entity from them as a person. VeeBee has been involved in exhibitions such as ‘The Other Art Fair’ and is exclusively exhibited in the UK.
We love the unpredictable compositions of Veebee's artwork. The artist prides herself on making each work complex yet perfect: "if I make a mistake, I will have to go back to the beginning and start again from scratch...pointing the nozzle over a delicate piece that I have been working on for days or weeks is a terrifying, but truly thrilling moment for me." The use of challenging mediums such as spray paint makes achieving perfection all the more difficult, and VeeBee's dedication to creating accurate artworks is commendable.
