Sketch for a Milk Cup, 1920 by Wassily Kandinsky by Wassily Kandinsky

About The Artist - Wassily Kandinsky

Kandinsky was a Russian born painter, wood-engraver, lithographer, teacher and theorist, was a pioneer of Abstract art and both his writings and paintings have been enormously influential.

Originally studying law and economics at Moscow University, in 1896 Kandinsky declined the offer of a chair at the University of Dorpat, and moved to Munich to study painting.

Kandinsky was intrigued by the possibility of conveying a range of emotions through the variety of colours and lines he chose to use.
