Seestück (Gegenlicht) by Gerhard Richter

About The Artist - Gerhard Richter

Gerhard Richter is a German painter, known for a prolific and stylistically varied exploration of the medium of painting, often incorporating and exploring the visual effects of photography. In the early 1960’s, he began to paint large-scale copies of black-and-white photographs, using only a range of greys.

Thereby he created a blurred effect, in which portions of his compositions appear softened, paradoxically reproducing photographic effects and revealing his painterly hand. In 1966 he began to introduce colour to his art prints, producing geometric colourful, bold, gestural abstractions of anything from nudes to flowers, cars to landscapes, architecture, and scenes from Nazi history. At artrepublic, look up at seductive abstract art prints from Gerhard Richter.
