From painting graffiti back in my teens I learnt how to use a can of paint and what could be achieved with it. I put these techniques back into my illustration work and went from there.

Our Notes
Golden Leaves is a beautiful artwork by Rob Wass. Produced in Rob’s signature style, the artwork uses layers of ink, watercolour paint, and silkscreen to present the natural world from a new perspective. We love Rob’s attention to detail and the intricate line work he uses to depict the tree's roots and the veins on the leaves.
The delicate use of gold ink in this work makes it a gorgeous statement piece that would look amazing in a living room or bedroom. We love how this artwork feels like a celebration of the world around us and offers a way to bring the beauty of nature inside your home.

By creating hypothetical rules using black ink and knocking those rules down with loosely applied watercolours Wass leaves the viewer with dynamic bold images that sometimes become so complex he can’t remember how he made them.

By creating hypothetical rules using black ink and knocking those rules down with loosely applied watercolours Wass leaves the viewer with dynamic bold images that sometimes become so complex he can’t remember how he made them.
Working with layers of ink, paint and silkscreen a conversation between dark and light begins, his rhythmical and intricate illustrations catch the viewers eye but look a little closer and you might find some hidden elements like a tiny spider that has spun a web the size of a tree or a dinosaur bone in the wing of an owl. His passion for photography also plays a crucial role in his work. Armed with his camera Wass looks for patterns in the natural world, whether it be a murmuration of Starlings or the tiny veins on a leaf, everything is documented and these photographs often go on to become parts in his work.
