‘Realisation You Don’t Like Coca Cola’ is an original painting by contemporary artist Lee Ellis. Hand painted onto canvas, the piece is signed by the artist.

Contemporary artist Lee Ellis is a master of merging styles: drawing together the figurative with the abstract, Ellis’s paintings are bold, bright, and brimming with expressive character. ‘Realisation You Don’t Like Coca Cola’ is both naïve and strangely dark, employing a childish, illustrative style, offset against a painterly approach that tips towards Francis Bacon’s anguished portraiture. Against a background of bright green palm fronds, a character stands, dressed in a blue and green striped suits head and shoulders like an oversized baby-gro.

Peeping out from the hooded garment is a man’s face, wearing an enigmatic and unsettling expression, sitting somewhere between trance-like, confused, and alarmed. Round, glassy blue eyes sit above tomato red cheeks, nose, and lips, adding intensity to the strange visage whose deathlike pallor Ellis has painted in dirty shades of grey and yellow. Is this the moment of realisation that you don’t like Coca Cola? Or simply a surrealist surge of unconnected themes and drifting imagery? Either way, Ellis’s painting is compelling and provocative: a striking work of contemporary fine art.

About The Artist - Lee Ellis

Lee Ellis graduated from the University of the West of England, where he studied Graphic Design in 2006. Despite working in the Graphic Design industry he found his artistic expression grew into portrait painting, developing, over the years, a personal and distinctive style.

His insatiable desire to create brings him to embrace different artistic mediums, from printmaking to drawing and painting. With an expressive and bold style, immediately striking with his unusual juxtaposition of bright colours and dark subjects, Lee’s paintings in particular convey an emotional and visceral angst within his figures. From humans to animals, he never fails to depict the inner turmoil of his characters. He achieves this effect by employing heavy, raw and expressive brushstrokes that make his painting style poignant and immediately affecting.

Lee currently works and lives in Bristol, UK.
