Our Notes
In Venus and the Balloon Ralf Laurenson combines the iconic painting The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli with the outline of a balloon dog, made famous most notably by contemporary artist Jeff Koons. A playful fusion of past and present, this artwork acts as a celebration of art history, a subject Ralf is particularly interested in. We love how Ralf positions the balloon dog so as to ensure that all the faces are included in this image. The effect is both visually arresting and humorous.
The striking and unusual appearance of this artwork make it the perfect statement piece, which is sure to spark conversation amongst guests. It would also be a great addition to a larger gallery wall.

We love the bright artworks he creates, especially the use of popular cultural figures such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or paintings like the Mona Lisa. Ralf studied art in London in the 1980s. He thrives on artistic freedom and draws inspiration from the world around him. His artworks express how he is unconstrained by style or medium. We’ve been working with Ralf Laurenson since 2019.
We love the bright artworks Ralf creates, especially the use of popular cultural figures such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or paintings like the Mona Lisa. His Pop Art-esque artworks are simultaneously light-hearted, art historical and witty, and we especially enjoy the combination of old artwork and new compositions. Ralf is a master at giving new life to much-loved and famous artworks - but with a distinct twist that is unique to Ralf.
