‘POPek - Gold’ is a 12cm, iron sculpture by contemporary artist Whatshisname (aka Sebastian Burdon). From a limited edition of 300.

Contemporary artist Whatshisname fuses the digital and the traditional to create provocative works of art. Attempting to express the ineffable, Whatshisname challenges his viewer to refocus on the world around them, questioning what they see in unorthodox and unconventional ways. Often parodic, and always saturated with humour and irony, Whatshisname’s work is powerfully visual, creating instantaneous connection with every viewer.

Satirising the work of postmodern provocateur Jeff Koons, ‘POPek - Gold’ takes the form of a small, golden balloon dog, sculpted form heavy iron. Squatting over a tiny balloon, Whatshisname shows us the kitsch canine in the moment of excretion, in this pop at the now-revered status of aesthetic postmodernism. Brilliantly satirical, ‘POPek - Gold’ takes small-scale sculpture to dizzying new heights.

About The Artist - Whatshisname

Contemporary artist Whatshisname (aka Sebastian Burdon) creates art for two reasons: “1. To celebrate an alternative to the ordinary and 2. Because it is something that I cannot do.” Born in Poland in 1982, Burdon began creating digital art at the age of 7, using the Atari 130XE. After moving to London in 2006, Burdon worked as an assistant to British artists and started to craft his own aesthetic, fusing digital and traditional methods.

For Burdon, his art allows him to express the ineffable: that which cannot be said with words. In this way, Burdon challenges his viewer to refocus on the world around them, questioning what they see in unorthodox and unconventional ways. Often parodic, and always saturated with humour and irony, Burdon’s work is powerfully visual, creating instantaneous connection with every viewer.
