About The Artist - Inkie

A founding figure in Bristol’s graffiti heritage, Inkie (aka Tom Bingle) is one of the UK’s leading urban artists. Named in Timeout’s top 100 most influential creatives in 2012, Inkie has helped to define a moment in contemporary art, working alongside some of the most acclaimed artists on the scene, including Banksy, Nick Walker and Massive Attack’s 3D.

Inkie’s aesthetic stands boldly out amongst the ranks of latter-day graffiti artists. Combining figurative imagery with abstract pattern, Inkie’s ‘Ink Nouveau’ style blends the traditional with contemporary, incorporating elements of art nouveau, Japanese painting, and spray-can technique. Recurring tropes include: stylised images of the female form, fragments of text, and fluid scroll shapes, which fuse together in high-impact palettes to create complex compositions.

Inkie has exhibited globally, including shows in: London, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Stockholm, Ibiza, Miami, and Lisbon. High profile press coverage includes features in Rolling Stone, GQ, and Dazed & Confused. As well as producing his own art - on both the street and the canvas - Inkie has co-curated a number of street art events, including See No Evil, and has headed commercial projects including, SEGA Europe, Xbox, and in-house design for Jade Jagger.
