'Paul Weller - This is the Modern World' is a giclée print by Mike Edwards. From a limited edition of 100, this print is signed and numbered by the artist.

There are 2,053 individual letters in this portrait of Paul Weller. A vintage typewriter font is used to create the basic structure, then each single letter is coloured by hand, often three or four times as adjustments are made. This means it takes around 10,000 letter renderings by hand to get to the final image.

"The piece was created in Brighton, the spiritual home of the Mod [Quadrophenia], and Weller is often referred to as 'The Modfather'. As a reference to this, I've included a hint of a target, the Mod signifier, but have made it visually subtle as I think that, while Weller will always be associated with Mod culture, as an artist he has much more of a broader scope"

About The Artist - Mike Edwards

Mike Edwards has pioneered typographic art, by creating stunning limited edition art prints of music artists, solely from a mix of words, lyrics, quotes and song titles. He says "In the same way songs sonically amplify the meaning of words, my work is about creating a visual form that can enhance or change meaning in words".

Mike's pieces draw inspiration from contemporary media, art history, Pop Art, classical painting and Rock and Roll. The main focus of his work is the study of depiction and, more specifically, whether visual images can be depicted by words. In his innovative and unique Word Paintings - or Text Portraits - each single letter is rendered in a separate colour.

When viewed from a distance the letters merge to create a unique image with a photographic-like quality. When viewed closely the text is clearly readable. Mike’s work has been covered by the BBC and ITV, and among his celebrity collectors are Imelda May, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Roger Taylor, and Zoe Ball, with one of his amazing art prints, signed by David Bowie, raising £22,000 for charity at auction. Why not allow Mike Edwards in to your home or office to enhance the surroundings with a piece of his very distinctive and much sought after artwork.
