Venus is a giclée print by Maria Rivans. From a limited edition of 60, this print is signed and numbered by the artist.

Inspired by Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, Maria Rivans’s dazzling screenprint transforms Hollywood starlet Lana Turner into a modern-day Venus. Awash with marine symbolism – from deep-sea coral, to divers, sunbathers, and soaring flocks of seabirds – Rivans’s Venus celebrates our harmonious relationship with the ocean. Here, prehistoric life meets vintage cinema meets Hollywood glamour, all tumbling together in Rivans’s signature headdress. A Goddess of love and beauty, both spiritual and physical, Turner as Venus is a glorious tribute to the natural world – and a deliciously cool breath of fresh sea air for hotter days!

Maria Rivans

Maria lives and works in Brighton, UK, and is a contemporary artist best known for her bright and eclectic collages. Her scrapbook-style aesthetic is created by appropriating vintage ephemera and combining it with vivid, and often humorous, imagery. Maria adopts a fresh approach to collage by maintaining dialogue with cultures and imagery of the past and using the style to reflect the complex world we live in. Maria has exhibited in the UK and Europe, as well as Hong Kong and New York.

We love the precision that Maria applies to the process of collating and assembling her compositions. She dedicates a large amount of time to locating the perfect imagery for each surreal artwork. Down to the smallest detail, each element of her collages are used to forge a unique identity for the figures in each piece. We particularly love how every one of Maria's collage portraits tell a unique story and create a unique narratives that bring each of Maria's characters to life.
