About The Artist - Dave White

Dave White is an award winning British artist, working at the forefront of contemporary fine art. White has enjoyed success since graduating from Liverpool John Moore's University, beginning with a showcase at the Royal College of Art in 1994. A range of exhibitions have followed continuously, across the globe, with recent highlights including solo shows ‘Apex’ and ‘Albion’ in 2014, which featured as one of the ‘top five to see’ during Frieze week.

Bringing a fresh take to the traditional paint-to-canvas medium, White uses oil and watercolour to create works that are filled with expression, emotion and dynamism. Known for his animal series’, White captures creatures from the natural world with astonishing vividness, exploiting colour, texture and tonality to generate a unique aesthetic. His works are characterised by an energy of movement, achieved through the sharp splashes, drips and strokes of paint that fill the canvas in a style reminiscent of 1950s abstract expressionism.

The beauty of White’s work lies in its ability to rework these abstract techniques into figurative depictions: the vitality remains, but with a material subject at its centre. As well as shows and exhibitions, White has worked on collaborations with multinational brands, including Nike and Brand Jordan. Following his seminal sneaker portraits of 2002, and the pioneering of the ‘Sneaker Art’ movement, White has moved from painting sneakers on the canvas, to painting on the canvas of sneakers, producing a range of limited edition designs.
