ARTIST STORY

David Shrigley

David Shrigley lives and works in Brighton, UK and is famous for his humourous drawings and handwritten text works. He has exhibited globally, with solo shows across Europe, the United States of America, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. Shrigley has been nominated for the 2013 Turner Prize, awarded an honorary doctorate by De Montford University in Leicester, UK and he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to visual arts.

WHAT WE LOVE

We love the way Shrigley's artwork is both relatable and funny, turning simple everyday encounters into comedic and often satirical commentary. His naive and childish style is contradicted by his witty and confronting typography, drawing the viewer into a false sense of security before they read the handwritten text.
