Although his characters are often portrayed as sad or covering their faces, KAWS illustrates universal human feelings through depictions of familiar figures. KAWS studied illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. The artist has exhibited in shows in Paris, London, Berlin, and Tokyo. Additionally, he has exhibited in solo shows at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, High Museum of Art, Modern Art Museum, and the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. KAWS has had a series of collaborations, most notably with Japanese toy companies, musicians such as John Mayer, Kayne West, and Travis Scott, as well as with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
