Silk screen printing is one of the only things that I lose myself in; and love seeing how they develop as I add new colour layers.

Our Notes
Northern Scum is a stunning artwork by self-taught artist Katrina Russell-Adams. The piece features translucent, colourful shapes that interlock into a beautiful and arresting image. Katrina is heavily inspired by the 20th-century artist Barbara Hepworth. Hepworth’s fascination with organic shapes can be seen in this artwork.
We love how Katrina’s delicate artwork contrasts with the tongue-in-cheek title of her artwork. We think this piece would look brilliant displayed on its own or as part of a larger gallery wall.

We love her exploration of the expressive conversation between shape and composition, drawing the viewer into their own journey of discovery. Her deliberate colour palette and geometric designs explore the link between form, composition and environment, and she is heavily inspired by the work of artist Barbara Hepworth. Having graduated with a degree in Behavioural Sciences and followed that with a successful career in social housing, Katrina came to a career in the visual arts after an adult learning course in printmaking in 2014. She has since exhibited across the UK, from a solo show called Underpin at The Foundry Gallery to featuring work in the London Festival of Architecture. After suffering a traumatic brain injury, Katrina has adapted her creative process and now works mainly from her studio. We've been working with Katrina Russell-Adams since 2021.

Her deliberate colour palette and geometric designs explore the link between form, composition and environment. Katrina is heavily inspired by the work of artist Barbara Hepworth, which can be seen in her expressive line work and interacting shapes. Her abstract shapes are reminiscent of sprawling skylines or intricate architecture; we adore how Katrina takes a complicated subject and simplifies it so beautifully
