Our Notes
he Lynch, Westfield Road, Cholsey, Oxfordshire—this picturesque location has recently unveiled archaeological treasures of remarkable significance. Among the standout discoveries are a series of corn dryers, widely regarded as the finest examples ever found. The level of precision evident in their construction suggests the involvement of a skilled engineer in their creation. Notably, a fragment of a Roman villa has also been unearthed in this excavation, revealing that a significant portion of the villa's structure extends beneath the current road and nearby houses. In an effort to preserve this historical gem, the section of the villa within the archaeologically excavated area has been carefully conserved in its original location. Moreover, the ancient thoroughfare known as the Icknield Way, which predates the Roman era, can be traced crossing the River Thames in Cholsey, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom—an intriguing testament to the area's rich history.

John started his career in the early 1990s with attention to the different languages of documentary photography, focusing on how specific communities form, shift and develop.
He now splits his time between shooting personal projects, teaching at various Universities and shooting features and portraiture for a range of magazines, charities, and design agencies. We love his sharp, focused photographs that seemingly capture a split-second moment in time. John’s monograph, Love, Power, Sacrifice (published by Dewi Lewis, Manchester), documented the Jesus Army over twenty years and peers into a microcosm of a fanatical religion. His most recent book; English Journey (published by B&W studio, Leeds) was a 4-year photographic travelogue across England in the footsteps of Bradford author J.B.Priestley. The work was shown in exhibitions across the UK and Europe and the book has sold across three continents since its publication. We’ve been working with John Angerson since 2021.
We love how John's sharp, focused photographs seemingly capture a split-second moment in time. Each of his photographs are a snapshot of an unexplained and often bizarre scene, leaving the viewer to fill in the blanks and build their own narrative. From his disparate landscapes to his portraits of famous figures, John leaves the audience wanting more information, whether that be of where the photography was taken or what's happening behind the camera.
