Printed by Universal Limited Art Editions, Bay Shore, New York and published by Association of Artists Against Torture, St. Gallen, Switzerland. Committed to the establishment and preservation of human rights since 1977, the Association for the Prevention of Torture commissioned the 'Artists Against Torture' portfolio in 1993. Nineteen leading contemporary artists including Donald Judd, Jasper Johns, Sol LeWitt, and Antoni Tàpies, among others, each contributed one artwork. Here, in his contribution, Johns offers a creative reinterpretation of Northern Renaissance master Hans Holbein, presenting abstracted silhouetted figures in this stunning lithograph in colours on paper.
