Emily Donald is a contemporary artist based in Newquay, Cornwall. Painting at street art festivals throughout the UK, Emily also creates dynamic studio work full of colour, pattern and movement.
Informed by a long spanning background in art and design, Donald specialised in printed textile design at the University of East London. Her work is inspired by her surroundings, be that the street art of urban locales or the exotic landscapes that she has encountered on her many travels. Pop aesthetics, urban styles, and traditional Asian illustration coalesce in her work to create bold pieces with a keen sensitivity to bright colour, intricate pattern and visual texture. Donald plays with pen and ink lines, spray paint, print, and collage to create her own unique style. Her work depicts tropical creatures, usually birds in flight, which come to symbolise memory and moment, place and space, through the snapshot-like capturing of the dynamic instant.
