Our Notes
The natural world has always been really important to Kristjana. Growing up in her native Iceland, she was immersed in a stark and unforgiving spartan landscape; surrounded by a muted, yet extraordinary palette of blacks, whites and greys. Reactively, Kristjana takes great inspiration from the towering scale of trees and buildings, and the exotic vibrancy of flora and fauna from more temperate climates around the globe. Her appreciation of Iceland's mesmeric monochrome beauty combined with her discovery of the more eye popping colours within nature, bring to life her unique map artworks, abundant with fantastical tropical creatures and vibrant flora and fauna.

Her artworks are inspired by her love of wildlife, maps and botanical engravings. We love the way her mystical and modern artwork incorporates digital and physical layering of nature upon nature, intertwining foliage with insects in a technique that aims to mirror our world of living things. Kristjana graduated from Central St Martins with a degree in graphic design and illustration. She was the Creative Director of Beyond the Valley, a fashion and design store in West London. She has won numerous awards including a D&AD award, Clio Award, and a first prize at New York Festivals Grand Prix. Additionally, she has collaborated with multiple brands including Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Liberty’s of London, Penhaligon’s, Paul Smith, V&A, and London’s Shard. We’ve been working with Kristjana S Williams since 2016.
