A very early Banksy edition. Monkey Queen was released as an edition in 2003 and marks one of the first of Banksy's works to be created as an edition. Monkey Queen as an image is an excellent example of how Banksys mind works. The artwork first appeared at a youth club called The Chill Out Zone on Broad Street in Newent, Gloucestershire. The painting hung on the wall of the club for several months before it was finally moved to the front window, where it caught the eye of several supporters of the Monarchy who felt that the Queens likeness, portrayed by a monkey on the Union Jack was disrespectful of both the Queen and the flag. The youth centre was asked not to display the image during the Queens Silver Jubilee. Numbered in pencil, but not signed, the piece is immaculately framed and the print itself is in perfect condition.
