‘Framed Kate’ is an original painting by contemporary illustrator Richard Berner. Using Gouache on Watercolour Paper, the painting signed by the artist.

Richard Berner is a Brighton based illustrator, whose work draws inspiration from a colourful array of cultural iconography: from Star Wars to Disney, Brighton landmarks to Amy Winehouse, Berner creates illustrations bursting with imagination and eccentricity. With a flare for fine art technique, all of Berner’s ink drawings are brought to life with colour and texture, often applying paint drips and splatters, before the print-making process.

‘Kate’ depicts super model extraordinaire, Kate Moss, her beautiful features painted with thick lines of black pigment, which Berner has allowed to drip, adding flecks and speckles for a dynamic and textured effect. Into her iconic, undone hair, Berner has painted daubs of pastel colour, in shades of salmon pink, ice blue, and sunshine yellow, capturing the model’s feminine allure with artistic prowess.

About The Artist - Richard Berner

Brighton-based artist, Richard Berner is an internationally collected illustrator and painter best known for his detailed pieces where a larger image is created from hundreds of his signature hand-drawn figures or ‘champs’.

After studying Fine Art and Animation Berner has gone on to create a range of artworks from limited edition screen prints, surreal portraits on canvas to large-scale wall murals.

With his intricate, ink drawings as a base, Berner brings each work to life with the addition of hand-applied colour and texture, building up layers of paint drips and splatters, for a dynamic and unique aesthetic.

He describes the scenes in his artwork as ‘surreal architecture’ and cites the masters, Dali and MC Escher as his biggest inspirations.
