The work of Not Now Nancy stages a dichotomy between a pastoral past and a modern urbanism, bringing conflicting themes together into a harmonious and compellingly beautiful blend. Her prints are a fusion of layers, building found, antique illustrations into hand drawn elements and symbolic contemporary imagery to achieve a unique and captivating aesthetic.
‘ Bullet Proof’ depicts a large, bricolage butterfly, assembled from a series of greyscale illustrations: mechanical workings, Victorian muscle-men, animal skulls, and mythical beasts combine to produce the illusion of the delicate, winged insect. The perfect symmetry of the collage has all the shocking perfection of an ink-blot test, which Not Now Nancy has exaggerated, adding cascading drips of black pigment and hand applied ribbons of copper leaf, which seem to slither down the print in beautiful contrast to the soft sprays of turquoise that complete the monochrome image.

These prints come individually custom framed in a narrow matt black aluminium boxed frame profiles measuring 5.5mm head on by 35mm in depth with standard glass. The prints are beautifully shadow float mounted onto a backing board within these complementary frames.
“Shadow Floating is a method used to beautifully mount artwork onto a foam core using artcare restore – a fully archival and reversible mount. The result is the artwork appearing to float securely upon a backing mount board - creating a wonderful shadow around the edges of the paper."
Not Now Nancy is a print maker & designer who works from her studio in Bromley and The Thames Barrier Print Studio. Her work explores the dichotomy between opposing ideas and instincts. Using the fragility of nature or bygone times and the iconic symbolism of modern day urban life, she tries to create a continuous, harmonious blend. Combining found antique illustration, hand drawn elements and modern symbolic imagery she achieves a finished piece which provokes a paradoxical result and an ever evolving story.
