Four Girls on a Bridge by Edvard Munch

About The Artist - Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch (1863 – 1944) was a Norwegian painter and printmaker who greatly influenced German Expressionism in the early 20th century – along with the art form that later followed. The artist was known to have many repressed emotions as he grew up, he went onto use this strong mental anguish to build his signature style.

Indeed, many of Edvard Munch's art prints depict life and death scenes, love and terror, and the feeling of loneliness was also a feeling which his work focused on. These emotions were depicted by the contrasting lines, the darker colours, blocks of colour and more somber tones, which depicted the darker side of the art he created. One of his most well-known works is ‘The Scream’ created in 1893 – which captures (in incredibly graphic detail) the anxiety and melancholy that affected his life.
