Contemporary artist Delphine Lebourgeois is known for her illustrative aesthetic, incorporating a wide range of media and material within her process including digital elements, collage, pencil, pen, watercolour, and screen print. Having studied Fine Art in Lyon, Lebourgeois went on to complete a Masters in illustration at London’s prestigious Central St Martins. Since then, Lebourgeois has produced a rich and extensive body of work, with sources ranging from Renaissance master Botticelli to the contemporary comic strip, blending high and low culture for a playful and often irreverent aesthetic.
Since 2010, Lebourgeois’s work has explored the dynamic between groups and individuals, investigating themes of sociality and solidarity, loneliness and liveliness through her story-telling visual practices. Her most recent series’ ‘Heroes and Villains’ and ‘Funny Games’ tell tales of vulnerability and disillusion, with a redemptive streak of rebellion and empowerment. Winner of the Images 29 Critics Award, Lebourgeois has also collaborated with major, global newspapers including The New Yorker, The Guardian, L’Obs, and Le Monde.
