Antony 'H' Haylock knows how to have a little fun with the art world. His is an art about art, playing with expectations of the iconic to create original mash-ups for the twenty-first century.

'For the Love of Pop' featured in 'H's solo exhibition, 'Pop Goes the Easel', which staged a collision between two of the twentieth century's most game-changing visual artists: Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst. Here, Hirst's iconic, diamond-encrusted human skull (aptly named, 'For the Love of God') sports the wild and wayward, ice-blonde crop of Warhol's memorable, 1986 self portrait. Tracing the lineage of postmodernism - from the undisputed king of the Pop Art movement, to the high priest of the 1990s YBAs - 'H' blazes the trail for an art of intelligent irony in our contemporary moment.

From the Artist

Having made the photographic image, I wanted to explore the Warhol side of the idea. So I created this body of screenprints reflecting his own Self Portrait series. These replicate the colours Warhol used in his series of 6.

A NOTE FROM US

WHAT WE LOVE

Inspired by iconic objects, we love the way each of Antony's works are a true conversation between the paint and canvas. This dynamic relationship results in the creation of artworks that are often surprising and humorous. On the question of why he makes art, Antony states: “I have always had a fascination for the iconic object. Something that has the power to evoke an emotion, a memory, a visual time stamp, things that compel us to covet them.”
