Matt Jukes' diptych, Crossing of the Night (2018 Diptych) blends the beauty of the natural world with the tactile techniques of artistic representation. In Jukes' own words, the print is inspired by "the quiet of the dead of night, when the humming in your ears fades away and all you can hear is your breathing" while lyrics from The Cure song At Night offer a sonic counterpart: "I feel the chill of ice / On my face / I watch the hours go by / The hours go by."

Additional Information:
Contemporary artist Matt Jukes is known for his abstracted landscapes, which fuse place, recollection, and emotion, for a meditative and moving aesthetic. With a background in graphic design and print making, Jukes's work is imbued with a sense of form and tactility: layers are built up within each piece, to explore the possibilities of colour and texture and to create a discursive, visual character within the confines of the printed space. Jukes' diptych, Crossing of the Night (2018 Diptych) blends the beauty of the natural world with the tactile techniques of artistic representation. In Jukes' own words, the print is inspired by "the quiet of the dead of night, when the humming in your ears fades away and all you can hear is your breathing" while lyrics from The Cure song At Night offer a sonic counterpart: "I feel the chill of ice / On my face / I watch the hours go by / The hours go by." Quietly haunting, Crossing of the Night (2018 Diptych) provokes contemplation and introspection with its astonishing visual presence.

We love the way he explores his own relationship to emotion and memory through the creation of his artwork, and in turn invites the viewer to explore their own emotions and forgotten places. The arrangement of colour is integral to the artist’s work, with each layer built upon the last through a 200-year-old flatbed lithographic press. Matt received a Bachelor of Design from RMIT in Melbourne, Australia before studying Printmaking at Morely College. He has exhibited in both solo and group shows in London, New York, and Melbourne. His artwork can be found in Claridge’s Hotel permanent collection in London, Nubo Resturant in Sydney, Maybourne Hotel Beverly Hills Permanent Collection in Los Angeles, and aboard a fleet of cruise ships. We’ve been working with Matt Jukes since 2019.
