‘And THe Waves Crashed in II ’ is an original piece by contemporary artist Matt Jukes. The work is signed by the artist.

Contemporary artist Matt Jukes is known for his abstracted landscapes, which fuse place, recollection, and emotion, for a meditative and moving aesthetic. With a background in graphic design and print making, Jukes’s work is imbued with a sense of form and tactility: layers are built up within each piece, to explore the possibilities of colour and texture and to create a discursive, visual character within the confines of the printed space.

‘And the Waves Crashed In II’ translates Jukes’ haunting blend of natural beauty and tactile technique into three-dimensional form. Layering sheets of torn paper, in shades of ocean-blue and forest-green, Jukes creates a miniature landscape enclosed in perspex: a series of rippling contour lines that bring the aerial view of the earth to life with astonishing visual presence.

About The Artist - Matt Jukes

Through the exploration of colour and texture, Matt’s work takes the viewer on a journey, one that acts as a conduit to the exploration of their own relationship to emotion and memory. Capturing misremembered landscapes from obscured memories, viewers are invited to share the emotions embedded in each piece - embracing their own reflections and creating personal memories that contribute to the wider context of Matt’s body of work.

His work can be found in rooms of the British Institution, Claridge’s Hotel, aboard Saga Cruise Ships and in the homes of numerous private collectors across the globe.
