Marilyn - Glow In The Dark' is a gorgeous and 'glowing' original piece from contemporary and collage artist VeeBee (formally known as Hybrid). This piece is painted onto glass using spray paint and aqua glow in the dark pigment to make it truly unique and truly eye catching.
Often her works feature iconic women such as Kate Moss, Audrey Hepburn or in this case the beautiful Marilyn Monroe. VeeBee has previously used Marilyn Monroe as the focal point in her works and with many of them selling out both here at artrepublic (and with VeeBee herself) we can't imagine this piece to hang around for long.

This piece is made by painting onto the reverse of the glass and by using hand cut stencils the dark areas are first painted with spray paints and then the mixture of glow in the dark pigment is poured on the back of the stencil image. By charging for a very short amount of time in sunlight or UV light it glows very bright aqua colour for around an hour until returning to its original neon pink state. This piece measures 56 x 56 cm and is signed by the artist.

About The Artist - VeeBee

Veebee enjoys the challenge of exploring new and inventive techniques to create her artworks. She often works on less traditional surfaces, such as glass, meaning that it can take several attempts to achieve the desired finish before the artwork is turned into an edition.

'Unlike the control one has over a traditional paint-brush, you rarely have the same level of control when it comes to using a spray-can. Pointing the nozzle over a delicate piece that I have been working on for days or weeks is a terrifying, but truly thrilling moment for me. Especially as I like perfection; if I make a mistake, I will have to go back to the beginning and start again from scratch.

My work begins with a vague image in my mind. I spend weeks or months considering the possibilities of developing it. I then start sketching my basic ideas and begin to plan the stages for its creation. As soon as I have a clear idea of how the finished artwork should look, I will begin the process. The hard part is that things rarely go as planned, especially if I am working with unpredictable materials. Sometimes it takes several attempts to achieve the finish I desire. I have had pieces that took over eighteen months to complete, but normally the process takes around four to eight weeks, depending on the complexity of the design.' - Veebee
