Red, pink & White Flowers after Fantin-Latour - Original By Chris Kettle
Red, pink & White Flowers after Fantin-Latour' is an Original oil on primed board by Contemporary artist Chris Kettle.

Brighton based artist Chris Kettle is known for his ÔNew Still LifeÕ paintings: inspired by the antique masters, Kettle has updated the traditional form, creating unexpected arrangements from obscure objects, and realising his explosive vision through a hyper-real aesthetic.

Merging realism with abstraction, ÔRed, Pink & White Flowers After Fantin-LatourÕ depicts a simple, slender vase filled with blossoming flowers in ice-white, soft-pink, and scarlet. Recalling the aesthetic of the French Impressionist painter who gives his name to the title, ÔRed, Pink & White Flowers After Fantin-LatourÕ plays with soft chiaroscuro, as the luminescent petals emerge from a deep, muddy background of earthy browns, which Kettle has built up with textured daubs and smudges. With its ghostly quality, the print evokes the past, while speaking to the contemporary moment with innovative style.

About The Artist - Chris Kettle

Chris Kettle is a degree-educated fine artist who lives and works at his studio in Brighton, UK. Inspired by the Old Masters, (in particular Jan Davidzs de Heem), Chris Kettle's art is far from traditional.

Fascinated by still life, Chris Kettle is interested in giving inanimate objects a kind of emotional charge, a soul of their own. His art is an exploration in which he puts obscure objects into odd arrangements, creating what he considers to be ‘New Still Life’. Chris Kettle has shown his incredibly detailed art prints and limited edition prints across the globe from Brighton to New York, Milan to Switzerland.

Artist Statement:

For the last three of decades I have focused solely on Still Life painting. I like the idea that my paintings are entertaining, and possess relatable aesthetic qualities alongside an ambiguity and even at times a kind of humour. The absorbing challenge I face every time I pick up a brush and attempt to portray elements of human emotion using inanimate subject matter, is one that that keeps me completely consumed
