Sepe (Artist): Prints & Originals for Sale

Polish street-artist Michał Wręga, aka SEPE, was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1982.

After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts Łódź with a degree in graphic design in 2009, SEPE began crafting his distinctive, urban aesthetic, which blends the art of the academy with an interest in traditional book illustration and large-scale poster design. This juxtaposition of fine art graphic design works to obliterate upheld distinctions of genre and form, and create thought-provoking, sometimes puzzling, and always powerful works of art.

SEPE’s street-art pieces are typified by their enormity: the artist explores the physical scale of the urban facade, incorporating the towering and intimidating character of metropolitan spaces into his murals. Against these rough surfaces, SEPE creates delicate imagery for a jarring effect, through which he invites his viewers to question traditional assumptions around the site of the artwork. His quasi-mannerist figures, rendered in painterly strokes, help to unfold stories, giving life to the streets in which they appear. SEPE’s self-professed artistic ambition is to develop his own artistic language, by reframing and expanding narrowly defined concepts of illustration, street art and graphic design.

Today, his works can be seen across Europe, on the walls of Prague, Munich, Warsaw, to name a few. SEPE has also won an ARTAQ Award in 2012 for collaboration on large-scale murals. He lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.
