American painter and printmaker Sam Francis is best known for his dynamic Abstract paintings which energetically contrast colour and void. He was influenced by the work of early Abstract Expressionist painters like Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, as well as Oriental thought. Sam Francis' abstract art has achieved international recognition and is held in the permanent collections of many of the world's modern art museums.
