Raoul Dufy

Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) was a French painter in oil and watercolour, an illustrator and designer. Associated with the Fauvist movement, he is best-known for depicting recreational scenes, such as horse races and regattas. Influenced at first by the Impressionists, then by the Fauve style of Matisse, he began to develop his own art prints and adapted his style, characterized by broad brushstrokes and bright colours. During his career, Dufy worked in a variety of materials, producing ceramics, tapestry hangings, and large-scale architectural decorations. His work is currently held in several museum collections worldwide, including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
