Paul Nash was one of the original British artists from the first half of the 20th Century. Working in the style of William Blake and Samuel Palmer, Paul Nash’s paintings perfectly captured the English landscape, particularly during the two World Wars, where he had served as a soldier. Heavily influenced by Surrealism, he explored the quality of ‘Englishness’ in his art prints and attempted to combine his commitment to modernism with a visionary approach to nature. Landscape From a Dream, 1936-8, and Totes Meer (Dead Sea) 1940-1, are two of his best-known paintings.
