Mehdi Ghadyanloo is an Iranian artist, painter and muralist. Ghadyanloo's murals have made him the most prolific Iranian public artist with over 100 across the globe and in his native Iran.
His paintings feature surreal architectural elements and are heavy with symbolism, from stairs, to balloons and aeroplanes. Responding to the experience of war, Ghadyanloo's artworks are utopian and philosophical and interrogate fear, hope and loss, whilst provoking the viewer to contemplate new realities and our shared existence. Ghadyanloo’s choice of colour and motifs draw comparisons to the European surrealist artists, and his medium has led to him being seen as the Banksy of Iran.
