Leonetto Cappiello ( 1875-1942 ) was an Italian and French poster designer who lived in Paris. Known as 'the father of modern advertising' because of his innovation in poster design, Leonetto Cappiello had no formal training in art, so he worked outside of the realms of traditional art creativity. He was the first poster artist to use bold figures popping out of black backgrounds, a startling contrast to the posters early norm. He painted in such a way that the figures on his art prints seemed to jump out at those who saw them. During his career, Leonetto Cappiello designed more than 530 advertising posters, which made him the acknowledged master of the advertising poster for almost 20 years. As with most famous artists, even after his death, Leonetto Cappiello’s work was highly sought after. Today, many people look for his work to add to their collections and at artrepublic we are pleased to offer works by the artist.
