Taking inspiration from the sleek lines of modern architecture, and the Surrealist movement, we love how Sugimoto draws from art history when creating his photographs. The artist uses extremely long exposure times to create that obscured, mystical feeling in his photographs.

Sugimoto was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. He studied politics and sociology before retraining as an artist four years later. He received his BFA in Fine Arts at the Art Center College of Design in California. Sugimoto then settled in New York, where his career as an artist would begin.
