Wild animals and birds are the inspiration for many of my oil paintings, and play a powerful role in Grace Wilmshurst's imagination. She grew up in the Wyle Valley in Wiltshire, surrounded by wildlife, which seemed to possess a fascinating but also sinister beauty. Wilmshurst captures that edgy, dark energy in her work using oil paint, which is the perfect, versatile medium for these atmospheric snap shots. In terms of composition, the creatures in her paintings often seem to mirror each other. This creates a sense of balance, but it also touches on the duality she feel within herself.
