Dollarsandart - the brain child of artist Jim Wheat - explores the significance of money in twenty-first century society, from both sides of the coin. Disillusioned by the hollow materiality of life in Dubai, Wheat turned to art practices to question the assumption that more money equals more happiness. What he discovered were the essential qualities of currency: that money makes the world go round, we might think we already know, but that it can act as a force for both good and evil, is often overlooked in a world which maligns capitalist culture.
Dollarsandart became a vehicle through which Wheat could explore the many sides of capital. Focusing on the trope of money through people, places, and occasions, the work of Dollarsandart often depicts celebrities, their Pop Art inspired portraits washed with the dollar sign. Rather than condemn, Wheat questions: his art is fundamentally curious, an experiment in opening debate and telling stories, tossing the coin to see which side it lands on. Dollarsandart has exhibited around the world, currently showcasing an ongoing retrospective aboard the Qe2 in Dubai and has number of celebrity patrons. Creating, engaging and facilitating supporting people from all walks of life to harness the power of creativity for well being and mental health.
