‘Lie Down I Think I Love You’ is a fantastic book by highly sought after contemporary artist, Charming Baker.

The book was originally published to coincide with Charming Baker’s exhibition at LA’s Milk Studio in March 2013. The book is a paperback, includes 144 pages and comes from an edition of 1000.

Published to accompany the British artist’s Los Angeles show,
this book is both structured and chaotic: paintings, drawings and sculpture slip in and out of sync with the coated and uncoated papers on which they are printed. Metallic pigment is incorporated into the black ink to emulate the the sheen of the soft pencil drawings and the book jacket is impregnated with linseed oil to evoke the smell of the painter’s studio.

About The Artist - Charming Baker

Charming Baker lives and works in London. Baker studied at prestigious school of art Central Saint Martin's, and upon graduating worked highly successfully as a commercial artist whilst also developing his personal artwork, and even returned to Central Saint Martin's as a lecturer.

With an impressive CV including solo shows at prestigious London and New York galleries, a sculpture collaboration between himself and Sir Paul Smith shown at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and an LA exhibition which cemented his relationship with the famous PMM Art Projects, Charming Baker has had an incredible career, with his work now selling for up to £150,000.

Baker’s artwork explores well-trodden and intrinsically linked themes; life, love, death, terror, joy, despair… with an underlying reference to the classics and a dark humour. He is also known to purposefully damage his delicate artworks, including drilling, cutting and occasionally shooting them with a shotgun, intentionally and inadvertently putting to question the preciousness of art, and adding to the emotive charge of the artwork he produces.

Damien Hirst says of his artwork
“It’s hard to say exactly what makes a painting great… Its flatness and its depth, its ease and its complexity, a kind of preciousness that’s also kind of throwaway, a risk factor. Who gives a damn? Charming Baker’s paintings are great.”
