‘Framed Cell Series - Magenta’ is an original Screen Print by contemporary artist Lara Hailey. Printed onto 300gsm Saunders Waterford Watercolour Paper, the piece is finished with Watercolour and Hand-Stitched Appliqué, signed by the artist, and framed.

London-based artist Lara Hailey explores themes of love and loss, identity and memory through her mixed media artwork. Inspired by human relationships, experiences, and the power of place, her work channels the energy of life’s memorable moments, evoking abstract feelings and hazy nostalgia with sensuous presence.

Hailey’s ‘Cell Series’ explores the intersections between the abstract and the tactile. Evoking images ideas of biology and scientific experimentation through its title, these mixed-media artworks are about harmony: the harmony of colour, of composition, and of sensory experience. For ‘Framed Cell Series - Magenta’, a cluster of roughly shaped ovals seem to swim together, some screen-printed, some hand-painted, and some appliquéd, in soft shades of magenta and fuchsia, sky-blue and rose-pink. Hypnotic and beguiling, ‘Framed Cell Series - Magenta’ is a trailblazer in contemporary abstract art.

About The Artist - Lara Hailey

London-based artist Lara Hailey explores themes of love and loss, identity and memory through her multidisciplinary and mixed media artwork. Inspired by human relationships, provocative experiences, and the power of place, her work channels the energy of life’s memorable moments, evoking powerful feelings, often without overt or obvious subject matter. Fragments of text and found objects often find their way into her practice, troubling the distinctions between the visual, the poetic, and the everyday. Her working method is diverse, incorporating stitched textile, mixed media resin, installation, sculpture, prints and video.

Since graduating from Goldsmith’s College, Lara has exhibited in venues across the UK, including the Mall Galleries, Somerset House, Broadway Market and Southwark Cathedral. She has completed commissions for Southwark Council, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and CBRE Surveyors as well as a number of private commissions. In Spring 2020 she will be going to WSW in New York where she has been awarded the Artist’s Book Residency grant. Her recent collection, The Cells Series, is based on a page from the book.

In addition to her public and private commissions, Lara also runs workshops as a freelance artist educator. She has worked with a diverse range of people and has co-ordinated community art projects that have been shown at The British Museum, The Natural History Museum, Rich Mix Art Centre, The Roundhouse, The Southbank Centre, University College Hospital, The October Gallery, The Fashion and Textiles Museum and The Together Gallery.
