The Scottish artist studied at the Edinburgh College of Art before attending the Moray House College of Education. Barbara has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows worldwide. Her artworks are held in national museums, public and private collections across Great Britain, Europe, and the United States of America. She has received a multitude of awards, including the Scottish Arts Council Awards in 1975 and 1981, the Guthrie Medal from the Royal Scottish Academy in 1977, the Royal Scottish Academy Sir William Gillies Travel Award in 1983, the Calouste Gulbenkian Printmaking Award in 1983, and the Hunting Group Prize in 1990. Additionally, she has earned a CBE, Honorary Doctorate, and membership of the Royal Academy.
