Andrew Carter graduated from Camberwell College of Art with an MA in Printmaking, having previously studied Fine Art at Central St Martins. He has also completed residencies at the Braunschweig School of Art, Germany and the Triangle Arts International Artists Workshop in Namibia. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition among others.
In his work he combines elements of observation, abstraction and design. In recent art prints, he has linked and juxtaposed visual elements from different times and places. His ideas develop with a personal response to the experience of something seen in the landscape and then through drawing and cutting away negative shapes to achieve a coherent balance of shape, colour and pattern. Working with glimpses, fragments and reflections Carter is able to revisit particular moments of observation.
