Anyone who’s passed by Ebor St, London, in the last couple of days may have noticed that Obey (Shepard Fairey) is back in the capital. The American street art legend has been adding new artistic additions to the city’s brick walls in his distinctive and iconic style.
Obey and his team began work on one particularly large mural in East London last week. The impressive piece is based on a print release collaboration with Jamie Reid and ties in with their collaborative examination of the timeless problems of corruption and wealth inequality. ‘This Decade Only! Shoplifters Welcome!’ is painted in colossal, bold lettering next to a sharp and subversive image of a hand reaching towards a brief case holding a ‘no regulation’ document. The image ingeniously alludes to a ballot box, pick pocketing, and the world of banking.
Referencing the widespread looting that took place during last year’s London riots, Obey (Shepard Fairey) is bringing his creative, political art to the city’s streets, addressing themes that remain as current and contentious as ever. We can’t wait to see what other thought provoking work will come out of this latest trip. And if you want an Obey to grace your own walls then don’t miss our limited edition prints...
