We recently had the pleasure of welcoming local Brighton-based artist Martin Varennes-Cooke to the gallery, when he popped by to drop of new prints. Brighton is well known for its artistic community and it’s always a treat for us to have some of favourite local practitioners stop by with new examples of their work. Varennes-Cooke is known for combining Pop Art aesthetics with the more traditional techniques associated with Fine Art. His colourful hummingbird editions have proven to be a longstanding favourite amongst visitors to our Brighton gallery. With the artist perfectly capturing the exotics birds’ plumage and rich colours in his prints. In ‘Morning Commute’ Varennes-Cooke has accurately rendered the interior of Brighton’s iconic train station, using a predominantly muted monochrome pallet, with the addition of soft pink light signifying the rising morning sun. ‘Morning Commute’ is available online at our Brighton gallery.
