Visual arts at the 2011 Brighton Fringe Festival were once again sponsored by artrepublic, as we continue our quest to help promote new and established artistic talent from around the country.

artrepublic has worked with the Fringe for many years and this year decided to launch an award for the best artist within visual arts. The winner received a £250 artrepublic gift voucher and free registration for the Brighton Fringe 2013.

Many participated and we are delighted to announce talented local artist Jay Collins as the 2012 winner. With a degree in Fine Art and a qualification in printmaking, Collin’s background has propelled her to flourish within the art scene and her paintings have been selected for a number of prizes and exhibitions. These include the Southern Open and the BBC year of the artist programme. Collin’s paintings are reminiscent of works by artists Hopper, Lowry and Piper with the use of architecture, colour and melancholy indicating these particular influences.

Jay received her prize recently at our Brighton gallery and we now look forward to the arrival of new and exciting artists in next year’s Fringe Festival.
